Description
Black and white photographic print recording the first reunion of the veterans of the Battle of Waireka (1860). Depicts a group of men in civilian clothing in front of the Provincial and Borough Chambers on King Street, New Plymouth. Names inscribed on the photo mount are as follows:

Missing from the picture is Lieutenant Reginald Bayley who was living in Wellington at that time. He was in Captn Mace's company. He was my great grandfather.

Sam Allan (6 from right, front row) was a son of John and Sarah Allan. Born 1/4/1838, Truro Cornwall England. Arrived, New Plymouth 24/2/1842. Was a Bootmaker employed by the Egmont Boot Factory which was on Brougham st New Plymouth, apparently on the site not occupied by the radio station. He Died in 1908 and is buried in Te Henui xcemetery.

Joe (Joesph Ward) Middle Row Seated 7th from Left. Born 12/09/1834 Bridport Dorset England Died 18/12/1909. Buried Te Henui cemetery New Plymouth. Arrived on the Timandra 23/02/1842 Married Thirza Jane Moon Was court marshalled during the Maori Wars but exonorated. The original document is held at Puki Ariki Joe is my Great Grandfather
