Tongaporutu Coastline - coastline from Pilot Road Point looking south across Tongaporutu River mouth, 15 October 2002

Production date
15 Oct 2002
Description
Coastline from Pilot Road Point looking south across the Tongaporutu River, taken in the early morning. This image was taken prior to Pat Greenfield's documentation project commencing. She terms this image the "pretty standard postcard shot". Taken at dawn, the white froth of the waves and the eastern side of Mount Taranaki are illuminated by the sun. The foreground is dominated by an expanse of water where the Tongaporutu River meets the sea. In the middleground the Three Sisters are visible and the Third Sister is intact (later eroded by a storm in September 2003). Whitecliffs and Mount Taranaki are visible in the background. The sky is clear and there is a soft pink tinge to the morning light.
