Description
The Y.W.C.A. in New Plymouth was established in 1921. Organized under the auspices of the international organization, the local branch was self funding and locally governed. In October of that year the Clarke Memorial Hostel was opened as a hostel for girls. By 1929 a Y.W.C.A. Hall had been built in Powederham Street, later additions built in 1934.
The association continued to provide services to the women of New Plymouth until 2002 when the Board of Directors resigned and a new programme was to be set up in 2003.
Includes four scrapbooks 1920 - 1988, minute books, songbooks and photographs.
