famous
feisty
and
curious
nature.
There
curiosity
made
them
easy
prey
as
they
did
not
shy
away
from
strangers.
The
North
Island
sub-species
is
now
only
found
on
the
mainland
in
hills
between
Matawai
and
Opotiki.
There
have
been
small
populations
established
around
the
North
Island
and
offshore
Islands.
