Pelisse

Description
A cream-coloured cotton pelisse or baptismal cloak. The garment is comprised of a full- length piece of cloth with two layers on top. The smallest resembles a collar and the larger one is designed so that the holder of the baby puts their arm in between this and the full-length piece of cloth. The edges are trimmed with scalloped eyelet lace and the top has two long ribbons which tie around the neck.

The pelisse was made in England about 1910. It was brought to New Zealand in the 1920s. It was worn by members of the Haarer and Faulls families for their christenings.
