Description
A Waterloo Medal. The silver medal features the profile of the Prince Regent wearing a laurel wreath on the obverse. The seated figure of Victory holding a laurel leaf is featured on the reverse. " WATERLOO / June 18 1815 " is also embossed on the reverse. The medal is attached to a crimson ribbon edged with dark blue by the original clip and a replacement steel ring. "JOHN LEWIS 23rd REGIMENT FOOT, R.W.F." is marked around the edge. The ribbon is mounted on cardboard.

This medal was awarded to John Lewis who served in the 23rd Regiment (Royal Welsh Fusiliers) at the Battle of Waterloo on 18 June 1815. It was donated to Taranaki Museum as part of the collection of prominent south Taranaki lawyer John Houston.
