This knitting machine was bought by the Low family of New Plymouth from Champions Ltd, "The Wool Shop" which was on 43 Devon Street, New Plymouth during the 1950s. It was used extensively for family knitting by Jessie Low for many years. In simple terms the machine works by the user laying wool across the needle heads and running the mobile cam box, which is fitted with a handle across the needle bed. Each time the cam box is passed across the needle bed in one direction then a complete row is knitted.
