Production date
An India Medal. The silver medal features a left facing veiled and crowned profile of Queen Victoria. " VICTORIA REGING IMPERATRIX " is embossed around the portrait. The reverse features a British and Indian soldier holding a standard. It is attached to the green and crimson striped ribbon by an ornate scrolled suspension bar. " RELIEF OF CHITRAL / 1895" is embossed on a clasp attached to the ribbon. "3962 Pte J. Kennedy 2d K.O.S. Bordrs." is marked on the edge. The ribbon is mounted on cardboard and the medal has been mounted to show the reverse.

This medal was awarded to J Kennedy for service in India from 1895-1902. It was donated to Taranaki Museum as part of a collection made by prominent south Taranaki lawyer John Houston.
