This large platter must have been highly prized by the Putt family who had limited space to bring it with them on the William Bryan. This sturdy piece survived the journey but many others were not so lucky. Richard Chilman, who travelled on the same ship, unpacked to find most of his crockery broken in transit including his mother’s treasured dinner service.
