A French silver Mexico Medal (Médaille de Mexique). The obverse features a left facing profile of Emperor Napoleon III wreathed and surrounded by a bound wreath. " NAPOLEON III EMPEREUR " is marked around it. " EARRE" is marked in very small letters under the profile. The reverse features the same bound wreath surrounding a central inscription " CUMBRES / CERRO BORREGO / SAN LORENZO / PUERLA / MEXICO ". "EXPEDITION DU MEXIQUE 1862-1865 " is marked around it. The medal is attached to a ribbon which features a black eagle wrestling a green snake with a red and green cross behind them.

This medal was issued by Emperor Napoleon III for service during the French campaign in Mexico during the 1860s. See the Fitzwilliam Museum  OR Aztec&oid=141552. This medal was donated to Taranaki Museum as part of the large collection of medals belonging to prominent south Taranaki lawyer John Houston.
