Description
A bulbous one(?) gallon copper ale measure with a question mark shaped handle and the cypher of Queen Victoria impressed on the interior of the lip on a pad of solder. " A " is scratched lightly on the body of the measure. Brazed seams are visible on the body.

Egmont
Brewery
as
a
general
hand
in
1874.
Johnson
had
already
some
experience
in
the
brewing
business.
He
started
his
working
life
as
an
apprentice
cooper
with
Joseph
Ward.
His
father-in-law
to
be,
John
Trigger,
by
whom
Johnson
was
brought
up,
owned
a
brewery
upstream
from
the
Egmont
Brewery.
Johnson
was
employed
here
for
some
years
before
he
joined
James
Paul's
team
at
Egmont
Brewery.
He
was
appointed
head
brewer
in
1902,
a
position
he
held
until
1921
when
he
retired.
