Trimble, William Heywood
A collection of three journals of reminisces of William Heywood Trimble titled "Taranaki Tattle 1875 to 1893". The reminiscences describe settler life in Taranaki including descriptions of the volcanic areas, the terrible roads and mud in winter. Trimble travelled around the province either on foot or on horseback, and it includes an account of him climbing the mountain.
William Heywood Trimble was born in Taranaki. His father immigrated to New Zealand from Liverpool in about 1875. The family settled in Inglewood and opened a sawmill there. They then moved to Dunedin at some stage. William was the first librarian of the Hocken Library.
