An unframed botanical work of oil on canvas. The plant stretches vertically across the canvas. It appears to be a flax, with long thick green leaves, and reddish-brown flowers. The background colours are autumnal like the plant, and painted using yellows and browns.
Fanny identified this plant as "H. Arakiki". An alternative specimen identification was made suggsesting it depicts a specimen of Phormium tenax, Harakeke, New Zealand Flax.
