Kohuhu and Common Nightshade
An unframed botanical oil on canvas depicting two different plant specimens. A dark brown/black stem works its way up the canvas from the bottom left corner. This plant has leaves that are varying greens and yellows in colour, and small red/dark purple flowers peppered across the ends of its thin branches. There is another plant along the bottom edge of the painting that has a lighter brown stem, green leaves, small white flowers and black berries. The background of the painting is layered shades of green creating a background of foliage.
The plant species in this painting have been identified; the upper plant species with red/purple flowers is Pittosporum cornifolium, or Kohuhu, and the plant species with the white flowers and black berries is Solanum nigrum, or Common Nightshade.
