Photograph shows a large group of children and adults on the summit of Mount Taranaki. Guide Harry Peters is on the far right. The young boy seated at left is 8-year-old Stanley Collis, thought to be the youngest person to have reached the summit at this time. The boy seated at right is the son of a Mr F.J Jones who was also on the climb. This boy was 10-years-old and disabled but made it to the summit without assistance. Others present on this climb but not yet identified in the photo are: James Hart, F.J Jones, Mrs Jones, E Jones, V Jones, R Jones, G Veale jnr, L Veale, R Veale(child), W.G. Collis, M Morey, J Morey, G George, E Yates, ? Jury.

Harry is my great-grandfather too. My father was Doug Peters son of Noble Bruno and Phoebe Jane nee Torbet. My mother was Rita Rawlings. Nice to read the cousins still around in NZ and OZ.

The list of the people in this party can be seen on page 8 of the North Egmont Register of Visitors Dec 1891 - April 1898. Reference ARC 2002-812. There is also a brief account of the journey written by Mr Peters. He recorded that Stanley Collis possibly the wee boy sitting at the front was the youngest at 8 yrs old to have climbed the mountain to that date and the boy third from the right was the 10 year old son of Mr Jones and even though the boy was crippled had made it to the summit without much assistance

Harry Peters was also my great grandfather! My grandfather was Noble Bruno and my father was Maxwell Noble Peters

Harry Peters was also my Great Grandfather. My GF was Charles Edward Peters, my mother is Valerie Joan Dargan (nee Peters). I have only just started researching this side of our tree. It's so nice to meet you all!
