This box would have been almost all a doctor would have had to work with in the 1800s in colonial New Zealand. Until the first medical school opened in 1975, most doctors in New Zealand trained overseas. A local doctor would have to treat a whole range of ailments with limited supplies, from helping women give birth to respiratory infections and all manner of wounds.
